What is Numeracy

Basic numeracy skills consist of comprehending fundamental arithmetics like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

School aged student are required to have substantial aspects of numeracy which includes number sense, operation sense, computation, measurement, geometry, probability and statistics.

A person who can manage and respond to the mathematical demands of life is considered “Numerically Literate”.

The emphasis on Numeracy skills needs to start at an early age. Children who struggle with Numeracy will become youth and adults who struggle with Numeracy.

Low numeracy skill or the lack of numeracy can have a negative impact on students who fall behind in their class. Student not only suffer poor grade but weak self-esteem.

Numeracy skill level has an influence on career professions.

Low numeracy distorts risk perception towards health decisions and may negatively affect economic choices.

Compared to those with low numeracy skills, people with strong, well developed numeracy skills are better abled to earn a living and contribute positively to the workforce and their community.
