The Pickering Reading Circle is a not-for-profit organization that provides FREE support in Literacy and Numeracy. Our goal and commitment is to improve the literacy/numeracy statistics in our community and the world. We believe that literacy/numeracy is a cornerstone of success.
Programs are centered on helping young children master their literacy/numeracy skills and develop a love for reading. We provide assistance in learning related challenges. Children need a supportive, creative and nurturing environment to prosper and unfold into successful students and adults. By using the resources available within the community we created “students helping students.” High school students are able to earn volunteer hours for supporting a younger child through our tutoring and mentorship program. Dedicated adults who wish to make a difference in the community volunteer their time to help students develop their literacy skills.
Our programs primarily focuses on Kindergarten to Grade 9 students who seek help in English and or French. Our goal is to provide literacy support to any member of our community who needs to improve their basic literacy and numeracy skills. Each year we are helping hundreds of children improve their abilities and increase their chances of success.
Our greatest asset is our volunteers as without volunteers our program cannot exists. If you are passionate about children and their literacy, please read with the children in your life. It is proven that as little as 15 minutes a day will help to improve their reading skills. By helping someone learn to read and do basic math you are making a difference in the path that is available to them. Volunteer to improve the statistics and change the world one child at a time.
